Mission and History

MISSION

The Severn Athletic Club Youth Football Organization (SACYFO) is a non-profit organization that offers an instructional football program for youth 4 - 14.  SAC is dedicated to teaching the youth of our community the fundamentals and proper techniques of tackle football. Our emphasis is on developing physical fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership skills in a positive and safe environment.  We strive to provide opportunities for all participants to develop individual skills and abilities while being a contributing member of a team.  It is important to SAC that we provide a way for our athletes to build lasting friendships, great memories, and have fun while also keeping the importance of education at the forefront.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY

The coaches are dedicated to promoting the core values of the Organization.  Wins and losses are not the primary priority for our coaches; developing life skills and individual character is what guides our coaching decisions and actions. Coaches are expected to lead by example in both words and actions on and off the football field.   Coaches accept responsibility of the development of our athletes as both players and persons while under their direction.  Our goal each year is to be a "Family" oriented organization that has strong ties to the community who not only develops Severn football players that parents and coaches will be proud of, but also guide our athletes to becoming positive contributors to any team they choose to be a part of in the future.

HISTORY

The Severn Athletic Club (SAC), sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Department of Parks and Recreation via the Anne Arundel Youth Football Association (AAYFA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that's been serving the youth of Anne Arundel County for over 35 years.  Registration fees, fundraisers and donations solely fund us in paying our operational cost.  SAC football offers programs ranging from In-house Flag Football for 5 year-olds to unrestricted weight teams for rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders, giving older players the opportunity to prepare for the larger, more intense football programs they will see at the high school level.

We have over 60 volunteers during each season and 20 volunteers during the off-season that commit their time and talents to making this a successful organization.  Our goals and commitments have never been stronger.

SAC teaches participants the fundamentals of football in a safe environment while striving to instill in them the values of education, sportsmanship and physical fitness.  As a part of the SAC program, players develop skills in teamwork, leadership and problem solving.  These values and skills will guide them throughout their lives.

SAC is a first class organization that takes pride in its ability to provide participants the opportunity to challenge themselves in a safe and fun environment. It is our hope to provide this opportunity to as many children as are interested. We pride ourselves on never turning a child away for lack of physical talent or financial resources.  If you are looking for a program with a family atmosphere and great staff of volunteers, look no further.
